Oasis Brief History

In The Beginning . . .

Oasis Theater Ensemble was founded in 2007 to provide opportunities for actors and audiences to come together in celebration of quality historical and modern classical theatre productions at affordable prices. Our ensemble of veteran actors and directors is dedicated to presenting quality theatrical literature that challenges the mind, touches the heart, and tickles the sense of humor.

We have been excited by the response to our first four full years of classic theater. To date we have presented nine shows, comedies and dramas, that have encompassed thousands of years (Lysistrata to Steel Magnolias) and a full range of emotions (The tragedy of the Trojan Women to the silliness of Importance of Being Earnest).

Oasis Theater Ensemble inaugurated its first season with Molière's French farce, /Tartuffe/ (August, 2007), followed by Tennessee William's masterpiece, /The Glass Menagerie/ (January, 2008). Our second season featured Noel Coward's classic comedy, /Blithe Spirit/ (August, 2008) and Robert Harling's comedy-drama /Steel Magnolias/ (January 2009). Our third season began with Arthur Miller's Tony award winning drama, /The Crucible/ (September 2009) and finished with the intense drama /Picnic/ by William Inge (April 2010).

Our 2010 - 2011 season began at Wausau East High School (our new venue) while the UWMC Theater was closed. We presented John Patrick's classic heart-warming comedy, /The Curious Savage/ (October 2010). This spring we produced two ancient Greek plays which we set in more contemporary settings. "Lysistrata" and "The Trojan Women", a combination of classic Greek Tragedy and Comedy. We lovingly call it /Its Greek To Me/ (April 2011).

So we begin our 5th season in our new venue - Wausau East Auditorium. We can accommodate much larger audiences and are anxious to continue to bring the high quality that the ensemble has become known for. Our latest production is the comic masterpiece /The Importance of Being Earnest/ (August 2011) by Oscar Wilde.

Stay tuned for what is to come next. Or better yet become involved. As the lists of our participants, audience, and donors continue to grow, we welcome you on either side of the curtain line.
